Tia Mowry , 34 year-old mother of 1, is turning heads in her brand new PETA campaign.
The former child star is wearing nothing but an apron....made completely out of lettuce. That's right, lettuce!
The Sister, Sister actress says she hooked up with PETA because she wanted to become "a voice" for her (African-American) community. The stigmas attached to vegan eating, especially within that community, need to be debunked.
PETA's "Let Veganism Grow on You" campaign seemed to be the perfect platform to kick off her mission, a mission quite similar to that of fellow curvy vegan, Erykah Badu.
Mowry affectionately recalls PETA reaching out to her when she was attacked by Twitter fans after announcing her transition to a vegan lifestyle.
The animal friendly organization offered her an incredible amount of support, which included their famous Vegetarian Starter Kit.
She was so overwhelmed with gratitude that she did not hesitate to get on board with their new campaign when asked.
Tia Mowry, and husband Cory Hardict, began their vegan journey in early 2013.
The transition was far from easy. Tia had to give up her familiar quick "go-to" meals and snacks, and relearn how to prepare food for her family. As a busy working mom, that's quite a sacrifice.
In an effort to save time these days, she prepares family meals in bulk and stores them in the freezer.
Now she enjoys vegan cooking, and accredits much of her new passion to Alicia Silverstone's vegan cookbook, The Kind Diet.
"Alicia's book has been a saving grace. The recipes in it are sooo amazing; and I always make sure to bring it with me when I go grocery shopping" Tia Mowry says.
Tia is now bringing her passion to the masses. She plans to release a cookbook of her own in the near future, geared towards busy moms that need vegan meals on-the-go.
In addition to the cookbook, Tia Mowry will also dedicate her energy to preaching the benefits of a plant-based diet to all who will listen, specifically African-Americans.
"I wanted to become a voice within my community...I wanted to educate my culture about the benefits of becoming vegan....Not only am I helping myself, I'm helping the animals out there, I'm helping the environment," says Tia.
Good for you, Tia! And if you're wondering how she feels since making the switch to a plant-based diet, she says:
"I feel great. I feel alive! I feel like I'm making great choices for my healthy."
