Megastar, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, has experimented with many diets (fads included).
However, when choosing a pregnancy diet, she chose wisely.
Considering the precious cargo she was carrying, the pop icon felt a great responsibility to adopt a nutritional lifestyle that would best serve her and baby (Blue Ivy).
While the star has remained rather tight-lipped about the specifics of her pregnancy diet, she does provide some wonderful general information about the foods she consumed while preggo.
The then 30 yr-old expectant mother adopted a "mostly vegan" pregnancy diet.
"I've been really conscious [about food]," she told 20/20. "I've also been trying my best not to lose control."
While she admittedly had a wicked craving for ketchup during her pregnancy with daughter, Blue Ivy, some healthy foods managed to become staples in her diet.
The singer says that stir-fried vegetables and tofu were also regulars on her plate.
She was also fortunate to have the support of hubby, rapper Jay-Z, while making these dietary changes.
"Jay's trying to be disciplined, and he needs he energy to support her." a source close to the couple told US Weekly.
The rap superstar claims that he experienced no negative side effects during the experience.
The power couple both reportedly experienced an increase in energy as a result of all the healthy food consumption. An energy boost is just one of many benefits of a vegan pregnancy diet.
While pregnant with Blue Ivy in 2011, Beyonce gained a whopping 60lbs. And less than six months after giving birth, she had already shed the excess weight.
How did she do it?!?!
"There are no quick easy secrets. The truth is, it's a lot of sacrifice. It's more about your mental strength than your physical strength." Knowles-Carter told Self Magazine.
The starlet has had her share of experiences with those "quick easy" fad diets. In 2006, while preparing for her role in Dream Girls, she used the popular Master Cleanse diet.
Although she did lose twenty pounds on the diet, she doesn't recommend this approach for long-term weight loss. Beyonce said she gained all of the weight back, and a few extra pounds on top of it.
So, instead of seeking out the latest Hollywood weight loss trend, she just extended her pregnancy diet to get her best body ever.
Her personal trainer, Marco Borges, shared some of the strategies she used with Life & Style Magazine.
As far as nutrition goes, Borges recommends "one vegan meal a day because this typically gets people to eat more greens than they normally would."
She also replaces a sit-down meal with a protein shake for lunch, and her chips with edamame for snacking, when trying to lose weight.
Going vegan wasn't all she did to get that body. She worked out.....HARD.
"I love running spring intervals for quick cardio sessions and also....running stairs," Borges says. And surely, he had her doing much of the same.
"Consistency is the key to success," says Borges.
The "Single Ladies" singer flaunted her fab figure during her "come back" performance at Atlantic City's Revel Resort & Casino.
I wonder just how long she'll keep it though, because rumor has it: Beyonce and Jay-Z are expecting their second child. Shhh, you didn't hear that from me.
Congrats to the happy couple!!
