Alkaline Drinking Water:
The Truth Behind the Hype

Alkaline drinking water, tap water, dog water, it's all the same. As long as you drink your 8 glasses everyday, you'll be fine, right? Wrong!

The quality of your water can improve, as well as destroy, your physical health. Alkaline drinking water is becoming more and more popular with health conscious individuals all over. But, why?

Alkaline water is water that is above 7 (neutral) on the pH scale . While anything above neutral can be considered alkaline, most physicians recommend water with a pH of at least 9.5 (11.5+ for those suffering from severe illness).

Unfortunately, the most common drinking waters are lacking in this department. There are a few bottled water brands, however, that have been making an effort to fill this void in the market.

Restore Your Health with Alkaline Drinking Water

pH Balance Reset

Our bodies accumulate dangerous amounts of acidic waste, whether it be from our diets or stress (yes, stress!).

The body's response to this waste varies. For example, excessive acid waste in the joints may lead to inflammation, and arthritis.

It's the pH levels that determine the body's susceptibility to disease or other health complications.

Where does the alkaline drinking water come in? Well, the water helps balance our pH levels. It dissolves accumulated acid waste in the body, which in turn makes it difficult for diseases to thrive. Need more convincing? Keep reading.

Weight Loss

I know you've heard this time and time again, but it's really true. Water does aid in the weight loss process for multiple reasons.

Not only does water help you feel satisfied, it helps beat cravings. How? Well, first we have to understand the source of the craving.

Many cravings are the body's way of saying it needs to be hydrated. Alkaline drinking water is the best solution for this issue. Reaching for water, instead of the junk, significantly reduces these cravings.

If you are not getting enough water, your metabolic rate decreases considerably. Lack of water forces the body into fat storing mode.

Alkaline water also prompts the body to release fat and cholesterol, which were merely protective measures against cell damage. It no longer needs the fat's protection because the alkalinity of the water has attacked many toxins it was warding off.

Hydration/Detoxification

Alkaline water is six times more hydrating than that other stuff.

How? Well I could bore you with extensive details about the charge of hydroxyl ions and blah, blah, blah, but I won't.

Since its molecular structure is much smaller, it can penetrate cells much more easily & quickly. The expedited hydration process allows the body's temperature to be regulated faster and nutrients delivered expeditiously.

Another great thing about this "miracle" water is that it pushes out toxins from cells as it hydrates.

Kick-Ass Antioxidant

Pardon the expression, but I couldn't think of a better way to describe this water's antioxidant properties. They're awesome!

Our bodies are frequently attacked by free radicals that roam our systems and wreak havoc on everything in their path.

They are responsible for everything from cell damage to premature aging (No thanks!). There's hope though.

The alkalinity of the water neutralizes these destructive free radicals, and leaves them virtually powerless.

Whew! I don't want those retirement home brochures showing up in my mailbox any sooner than necessary.

How much alkaline drinking water do you need daily?

Well, the answer definitely varies. Most nutritionists/fitness experts suggest 1 of the following:

1. 8-10 8 oz. glasses

2. One-half of your body weight in ounces

3. At least 3 to 4 liters of alkaline water per day

It's always wise to listen to your body and decide what works best for you. If you're more active than most, then you'll definitely need much more than 8 glasses everyday.

While the benefits of this water are amazing, it's not going to please everyone. So explore alternatives to alkaline drinking water to determine what fits your needs.
